March challenge done

March challenge done

After completing 5 km a day in February, I set myself a new goal. It felt challenging, but in one way it was actually easier: I did not have to hit a target every single day. I could get ahead on stronger days or make up for missed progress later.

For March, my goal was to reach 500,000 steps and 5,000 meters of elevation gain. I tracked everything with my watch, so it included not only workouts but all my daily movement as well. Fun fact: Garmin watches count floors, and 3 meters equals 1 floor.

Yesterday, on March 27, I reached the goal I had set for myself.

You might ask: why do this at all? Why am I doing it?

First of all, at 130 kilos I would not have been capable of this. But my old-new body can do it now — and more than that, it actually enjoys it.

I collected a lot of those floors on the hill in our street and on the Calvary in the next street over. It felt really good to have the neighbors cheering me on and encouraging me, so thank you again for that.

If you are just starting out, what goal would I suggest for April? 150,000 steps. And if you feel up to it, add 450 meters of elevation gain, or 150 floors. Increase your step count gradually, and pay attention not to push yourself too hard. Be proud of every single step you take, because you are taking those steps for yourself. I am already cheering for you, and if you share your progress in the group, we will encourage you together.
