Tunnel Run

Tunnel Run

Today was the Tunnel Run in Kőbánya, Budapest. In this race you could actually run into the “maze” of the reservoir.

My daughters talked me into signing up. Running with Anna was seriously cool. Eszter got sick, though, so in the end it was just the two of us.

I think I prepared pretty well—even if the training block was only eight weeks. I didn’t set the bar too high, since I run 15 km every month for a Garmin badge anyway, so 14 km didn’t feel unusual.

The weather in the days leading up to the race was kind of “funny,” but on race day it turned out great—so great that I ended up stripping off two layers while running.

Before the start I figured an 8-minute pace would be perfectly fine— that’s my usual average on trails over 15 km. But once we set off, I just couldn’t go slow. The crowd pulled me along, adrenaline kicked in, and I ended up running the whole thing much faster: my average was 6:56 per km (including the quick change and everything).

And of course, I still wanted that 15 km badge this month, so after the 14 km race I ran an extra kilometer around the area to make it count.

Am I funny? Or just a bit crazy? Doesn’t matter.
